An 18-year-old from Illinois was shot and killed Monday evening in west Springfield and as of Tuesday morning police did not have a suspect.

Lavelle C. Rose III, 18, from East St. Louis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rose was shot while in a vehicle at West Calhoun Street and North Forest Avenue. Police responded to a report of someone shot at 6:51 p.m. April 17.

Rose was a passenger in the vehicle. The female driver also was shot; she was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both Rose and the driver had multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

This is Springfield’s third homicide investigation in 2023.
