Springfield police believe speed was a factor in a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sunshine Street and National Avenue Saturday night.

According to a release from the police department, Andrew Irizarry-Sierra, 38, of Springfield, was driving a black 2014 Ford Taurus eastbound on Sunshine when he collided with a stationary 2016 Toyota Rav 4 just before 11 p.m.

The purple Rav 4 was driven by Glen Westerhouse, 28, of Springfield. Domingues Buenrostro, 26, of Springfield was a passenger. He died at a Springfield hospital from injuries suffered in the wreck.

The Rav 4 was facing eastbound on Sunshine when the Taurus struck it in the rear corner on the passenger side. Irizarry-Sierra and Westerhouse were transported to a Springfield hospital for their injuries.

Springfield police say the investigation is ongoing as to the circumstances of the crash. This was Springfield’s 22nd fatal motor vehicle crash in 2023.
