Springfield police believe a Dec. 27 fatal shooting death involving a juvenile victim was accidental. The incident happened on a residential block in West Springfield.

“The shooting in the 4300 block of West Helen yesterday appears to be the result of an accident,” Cora Scott, a city spokeswoman, said in an email. “While the investigation is ongoing, at this point there appears to be nothing suspicious in nature.”

A Springfield police incident report states the shooting took place sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 2:48 p.m. on Dec. 27. No other details about the victim have been released as of Thursday at noon.
