Springfield voting guide available to all readers without a subscription

Polls will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, and that’s when our team here at the Hauxeda will kick into a special gear reserved for election nights. Meanwhile, you have time to vote absentee or make your plans to go to the polling place anytime between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Before you vote, check out our comprehensive voting guide for Springfield, which is available with open access for all readers without a subscription.

Daily Citizen subscribers can brush up on the races for the Springfield Board of Education, the Springfield City Council, the mayor’s office and four ballot issues before they pick up their ballots.

Four candidates vie for two spots on the Springfield Board of Education. The campaign has been dotted with disagreements over personal values and cultural ideology. Reporter Cory Matteson also explored reasons why teachers leave the profession, affording candidates the chance to talk about disruptive students.

The crux of Proposition S is infrastructure. It’s a $220 million plan to build new schools and do some heavy remodeling and refurbishing across Springfield. Matteson took us inside the cafegymatorium (cafeteria, gym and auditorium) at Reed Academy to explore the roots of Prop S.

Springfield’s growth and development — and its relation to the Forward SGF 20-year comprehensive plan — have been debated by the six candidates running for three spots on the Springfield City Council. Development is also a key point of disagreement for challenger Melanie Bach and incumbent Mayor Ken McClure.

That’s just a sampling of what our subscribers can find on the Elections and Voting section of our website.

For some behind the scenes insight on the people who do their best to make voting as accessible and as easy as possible for voters, listen to Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller discuss election preparation with host Tom Carlson on the Daily Citizen’s “In Our Town” podcast.
