Hi, Springfield,

Business and development stories rose to the top of the Hauxeda’s coverage this week. Our most read story is perhaps the climax of a contested plan to put a drive-thru coffee store at a vacant lot on Sunshine Street.

After our readers get through the morning jolt, we hope they’ll think about lunch, dinner or a late night at Pappy’s Place, a nearly century-old institution in Grant Beach. Pappy’s is the focal point of a swath of urban renewal dubbed “Raderville,” as Jack McGee explains in this report with a heads-up for music lovers.

In our Lives Remembered piece this week, Mike O’Brien introduces us to Jerry Redfearn, a salesman who was so kind to others he would always go to Missouri State basketball games at least 20 minutes earlier than he would otherwise arrive, just so he could stop and talk to all the friends he would encounter between the parking lot and his seat.

Finally, when it comes to business, Lars Nootbaar hopes to get down to it and become a full-time starter for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023. Lyndal Scranton caught up with the fan favorite during a Cardinals Caravan stop at the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions. Scranton reportedly did not shout “Noooooot!” at Nootbaar, but got him to speak candidly about playing with superstars Albert Pujols and Nolan Arenado.
