Text from our SGF Sunday email newsletter, written by Reporter Rance Burger

The data on diabetes in Springfield is stunning. Reporter Cory Matteson used one man’s life with the disease to break some misunderstandings, knock down myths and examine the stats. Diabetes has so many dollars tied to it, it’s the disease that is practically its own industry.

Matteson wrote the Hauxeda’s most-read story of the week, which stems from the arrest of a Nixa High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. This piece includes a lesser-known fact about Missouri’s laws governing consent, and context from the investigation that led to an arrest and indictment.

The recent snowfall gave me the chance to catch up with a couple of my neighbors as we took to our driveways with shovels. Having recently moved, I’ve been trying to cultivate good relationships with the people in my neighborhood, but it isn’t easy. Like any relationship, it takes effort. University of Missouri Extension’s David Burton explores neighboring in Greene County with some tips and some statistics on the intent of being an active participant in the place where you live.

As a recovering sports guy, I’m acquainted with Marty “the Sign Man” Prather. Lyndal Scranton caught up with the outspoken, pizza-spinning superfan in advance of Sunday’s AFC Championship. What I didn’t know is that the Sign Man will stay true to his Ohio roots when it comes to his rooting interest.

Jeff Kessinger is back with you Monday morning. Until then, Let's go Chiefs!
