Text from our SGF Weekend email newsletter, written by Managing Editor Brittany Meiling

The most rewarding part of being a local news editor is learning the ins and outs of Springfield. Often, I'm learning about big and tough issues, like homelessness or domestic violence or city council priorities. But occasionally, I learn something purely entertaining — like that 25-year-old pop star Jake Wesley Rogers, who played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden this fall, grew up in the Springfield area.

Writer Mary Ellen Chiles talked to him ahead of a hometown show at the Gillioz next weekend, and he opined about the hedonic treadmill, missing Missouri and how Springfield Little Theatre had shaped him as a performer.

His concert isn't until next weekend, but if you're looking for something to do today, check out the Christmas parade in downtown Springfield. Or plan a night drive to tour our list of ultimate Christmas lights stops!

Don't miss one of our most-read stories from this week — a profile of Springfield's fast-growing Small Batch Foods.

Happy Saturday!
