Text from our SGF Weekend email newsletter, written by Managing Editor Brittany Meiling

When our intern Dylan Durrington told me about this horror movie filmed entirely in Springfield — and featuring local actors — my interest was piqued. Imagine my delight when it turned out this film's trailer was weirder and cooler than I was expecting.

The movie, called Eldritch, USA, does not fit well into one genre. Instead, it's a blend of horror and comedy. Oh, also, it's a musical! I watched the trailer with a furrowed brow all the way until the last few seconds, then busted up laughing. (Anyone else do the Bugle hands thing? I definitely do.)

This movie is coming to the Alamo Drafthouse next month. Read more about it in Dylan's story.

Speaking of local talent, remember that podcast guest we recently featured — Julie Blackmon — who did that amazing photo of a pregnant woman on a paddleboard? Two of her pieces got acquired by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., considered one of the greatest museums in the United States.

Our podcast had another fun guest this week — Richard Crabtree, the real estate agent and self-taught historian who has a massive following on Facebook. He shares historical photos of Springfield icons and shares stories and details about our town. He talked with host Tom Carlson about Springfield's past and present in the latest episode of In Our Town.

If you haven't yet heard, I announced my resignation from the Daily Citizen this week. I share why I'm leaving and what's coming next in this column.
