Springfield Public Schools has appointed its director of facilities to fill a bigger role.

Pending approval from the Board of Education, Shawn Dilday has been named as director of operations for the school district, a position Travis Shaw left open upon his promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Operations last year.

Dilday will oversee facility maintenance, nutrition services, custodial and grounds operations, transportation, school police and capital construction, according to a Springfield Public Schools announcement. That includes construction projects that are in the second phase of a $220 million bond voters approved in April last year.

In the announcement, Shaw said Dilday brings an impressive amount of experience with facility management and budget oversight. Before his hire at Springfield Public Schools in 2016, Dilday was director of building and grounds for the Neosho School District for the previous 17 years.

Dilday will transition into the role over spring, as the district hires his replacement.
