Missouri State University students and other passersby have watched progress build on the university’s John Goodman Amphitheatre for more than a year. On Sunday, the public can see the finished project.
People are invited to tour the 7,700-square-foot, $6.4-million outdoor venue from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 23. The venue is located in the Judith Enyeart Reynolds Arts Park, just outside Craig Hall.
The John Goodman Amphitheatre allows for an audience of up to 350 to view performances on a permanent stage, while also serving as an outdoor classroom for fine arts students. It will be the stage on which future Tent Theatre summer performances take place, and can also host music, comedy and other arts.
“We’re excited to invite the community to this open house,” Shawn Wahl, dean of MSU’s Reynolds College of Arts and Letters, said in a news release. “We remain grateful to our donors and friends who helped make our structural dream become reality.”
Goodman, an MSU alum and award-winning film and television actor, contributed to the project. The park is named for Reynolds, an MSU graduate and retired English department employee.
