The 2024-2025 Broadway Season at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts features a trio of Tony Award winners and two shows perfect for the whole family.

The season starts in August with “Peter Pan” and wraps up in April with “Hadestown.” In the middle is an early holiday gift in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Hammons Hall, on the campus of Missouri State University, partners with Celebrity Attractions to present the five-show season.

“We are thrilled to present another season of Broadway hits at Juanita K. Hammons Hall alongside our partners at Celebrity Attractions,” Keith Boaz, executive director of Hammons Hall, said in a press release. “For more than 30 years we have made it our mission to bring the best of Broadway to Springfield, and the upcoming Great Southern Bank Broadway Season is no exception. Our 33rd season has something for everyone, including three titles that will be making their southwest Missouri premiere at Hammons Hall.”

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s playing the Hall.

The high-flying musical “Peter Pan” has been thrilling audiences of all ages for nearly 70 years. It’s being brought back to life in a new adaptation by playwright Larissa FastHorse, directed by Emmy Award winner Lonny Price and choreographed by Lorin Latarro.

With a sprinkle of fairy dust and a few happy thoughts, Peter Pan and his sidekick, Tinker Bell, take the Darling children on a magical journey they’ll never forget. “Peter Pan” features iconic songs like “I’m Flying,” “I Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Neverland.”

‘Dear Evan Hansen,’ Oct. 8-10, 2024

Called “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by the Washington Post, “Dear Evan Hansen” looks at our complex, interconnected and social media-filled lives from the point of view of both parents and young people.

Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. He finally gets the chance to fit in, setting the stage for a powerful musical about how even though it can be hard, we can find each other — and ourselves — along the way.

“Dear Evan Hansen” features an uplifting score by the Tony, Grammy and Oscar-winning team behind “The Greatest Showman” and “La La Land,” and a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson.

This production features the hit songs “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” from the original animated series and is narrated by Max the Dog. Expect magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations.

The smash-hit “Ain’t Too Proud” follows the life and times of the Temptations’ extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Temptations created 42 Top Ten hits, with 14 reaching number one.

“Ain’t Too Proud” was nominated for 12 Tony Awards and won the 2019 honor for Best Choreography. It was written by three-time Obie Award winner Dominique Morisseau and features the Tony Award-winning choreography of Sergio Trujillo (“Jersey Boys,” “On Your Feet!”). The musical includes hits like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “Get Ready” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.”

The 2024-2025 Broadway Season concludes with a production that won eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. “Hadestown” intertwines two mythic tales — young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone — and takes audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

Singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell created “Hadestown” with innovative director Rachel Chavkin. Mitchell’s melodies and Chavkin’s imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
