Springfieldians, this celebration is for you.

The Springfield Art Museum hosts Celebrate Springfield, a cultural explosion of arts, entertainment, games, hands-on crafting and food. The common denominator: locals celebrate all things Springfield through the arts.

“In its second year, Celebrate Springfield exists to show our local community all of the things they can do here in our community and that they can absolutely fall in love with where they live,” Celebrate Springfield co-chair Megan Buchbinder said in an email to the Daily Citizen. “Celebrate Springfield also works to eliminate certain barriers to participating in such offerings.”

Admission to Celebrate Springfield is free. The event goes from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1.

The main intent of Celebrate Springfield is for people to discover new features, organizations and people in the place they live. This is the second year of the initiative.

The food truck roster for the event includes I Love Tacos, Doggy Style, Bosky’s Vegan Grill, Fire Family BBQ and Xurros Co.

The Springfield-based Hatch Foundation is Celebrate Springfield’s main backer. The foundation started in 2019 with the goals of empowering Springfield’s people and neighborhoods and helping Springfield reach its full potential.

Parking is limited at the Art Museum and at nearby Phelps Grove Park, so there will be parking available in the Missouri State University parking lot at the corner of National Avenue and Grand Street, with shuttles running back and forth throughout the event.

Springfieldians are encouraged to try to walk, bike or wheel their way to Celebrate Springfield, because the Art Museum is located on the Fassnight Creek Greenway Trail. Better Block Springfield will provide bicycle parking on site.
