Rick Ruderer knows something about the struggles nonprofits face. The executive director of the 50 Roses Foundation is doing something to help.

“We want people to know that women’s not-for-profits are one of the lowest-funded types of not-for-profits, and what we want to do is raise awareness and funds to educate people to the great work these not-for-profits are doing in Springfield,” he said.

That’s why the 50 Roses Foundation is putting on the second annual Rosé Day from noon-5 p.m. on May 21. The event takes place in downtown Springfield.

“It’s a wine walk to empower women and girls,” Ruderer said. “It features 10 stops. At each stop is a different not-for-profit that assists women and girls. They’ll be handing out information and telling people what they do as well as giving out two-ounce samples of rosé wine.”

Tickets for Rosé Day are $30 each and are available online through Eventbrite or on Facebook. Use the code “Volt” to get $5 off your ticket. That ticket gets you a wine glass to carry to each stop and a passport for 10 samples of wine.

“A portion of each ticket goes to the not-for-profit you choose when you purchase your ticket,” Ruderer said. “You can pick the one you want to support and the portion goes to them.”

The rest of the money goes to the 50 Roses Foundation, a 501(c)3 whose mission is to raise awareness for other non-profits and causes that improve the quality of life in the St. Louis and Springfield regions.

Rosé Day starts with check-in at Park Central Square. From there, participants head out to visit the participating businesses and learn about these organizations:

  • A Girl Like Me
  • Diaper Bank of the Ozarks
  • The Doula Foundation
  • Girls on the Run
  • Gynca
  • Harmony House
  • The Junior League
  • Safe to Sleep
  • The Victim Center
  • Women in Need

Rosé Day is sponsored by Volt Credit Union and Hotel Vandivort. For more information, visit the Rosé Day website.
