The Springfield Conservation Nature Center has plans to renovate the Savanna Ridge Trail in an effort to provide a better walking experience.
Starting Tuesday, portions of Savanna Ridge Trail will be closed Feb. 14-16 and Feb. 21-23, or until the renovations are completed. The slight shutdown of the trail will allow the renovations to happen while still allowing limited use of the trail to occur, according to a Missouri Department of Conservation news release.
Renovations taking place involve removing the asphalt and changing it out with a more natural surface in addition to widening and stabilizing sections of the trail. The work being done to the trail will only affect a portion of the three-mile trail. Expect signage to be present during the renovations to direct users to the open trails.
The Long Trail, which is normally accessible from the Savanna Ridge Trail, can be accessed from a trailhead in the parking lot.The Missouri Department of Conservation plans to finish the project by spring.
