Dickerson Park Zoo celebrates its 100th anniversary this Saturday, July 15, with a party, proclamations from Springfield leaders and a $12 admission price for guests of all ages.

“The idea is to create a mix of pomp and circumstance and a fun birthday party atmosphere,” said zoo spokeswoman Joey Powell in a press release. “The animals get to celebrate as well and will be receiving special 100th birthday treats and enrichment throughout the day.”

The official Centennial Celebration Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the zoo amphitheater.

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure, Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon, Missouri state representatives Stephanie Hein, D-Springfield, and Betsy Fogle, D-Springfield, Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe (R), Congressman Eric Burlison, R-Missouri, and other special guests will give proclamations, according to the release.

In addition, some sports mascots, Star Wars characters, the Fishin’ Magicians, Kipper Kreations Face Painting, a bounce house and more will be on zoo grounds from 10 a.m. to noon.

The zoo’s café will feature special birthday treats on the menu.

The zoo, located at 1401 W. Norton Road in Springfield, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
